History

In the 17th Century, as the Dutch settled New Amsterdam on the shores of what is now New York City, a classic spirit emerged half a world away.

A Dutch doctor, mixed a neutral spirit base with juniper oil and called it genever—a nod to the French word genièvre, meaning juniper.

Genever quickly evolved into gin, and by the middle of the 18th Century, Londoners were consuming 11 million gallons of Holland’s export each year. Meanwhile, the Dutch wasted no time introducing gin to their settlement across the Atlantic: New Amsterdam.

The British later mixed the spirit with tonic water, giving the famed Gin and Tonic an enduring place in history. Then, in 1912, the Gin Martini knocked on New York City's door, and Manhattan was never the same.

Today, New Amsterdam Gin blends botanicals with citrus elements and a light touch of juniper to create an undeniably smooth taste.
